There are two different types of deposits: security deposits and holding deposits. You can check which one is applicable to you by checking the Rental Conditions section in a listing, as well as on your booking request and confirmation emails.
There is one simple difference between these two deposits:
- A holding deposit is asked up front and you pay it directly to Uniplaces at the same time as you pay the first month's rent;
- A security deposit is paid for on the day you move in directly to your landlord.
Both deposits work as an insurance for a landlord to cover any potential damages that may occur during your stay. The landlord may also keep the deposit if you leave earlier than agreed. If no damages occur and you leave on the agreed move-out date, the landlord should refund your deposit using a method you both agree on.
Please note that both the holding and the security deposit are not refunded in case you decide to cancel your booking. Learn more about our deposit policies here.
